Brit Awards 2008

Britain has the best music in the world.
End of story.
The story just ended................

We love the BRITs and so should you!

To celebrate the run up to the best awards for the best music in the world (so possibly the universe) we're going to blog ALL about it.

In MY opinion (and this is all opinion) the BRIT award for "British Male Solo Artist" is between Mark Ronson or Mika. Mark Ronson is abslutely MASSIVE right now having worked with Londons 'uber cool' artists on Versions. Everyone wants to work with him on his covers, so everyone will be voting for him. Lets not forget about the backslapping that goes on at these events.
The reason I put Mika in there too, is entirely down to the backslapping. Mika's music couldn't be more pop if the Scissor Sisters gave it a queer eye for the straight guy make over (disclaimer: I am in no way insinuating that Mika's music is too straight). Pop is the foundation of British music and popular culture. It might not be to everyones taste, but without it we wouldn't have anything to rebel against or hate would we?
Newton Faulkner's in with a chance though. He MURDERED Massive Attack feat Elizabeth Fraser's "TearDrop" and just to prove it, I've put the YouTube Vid of the original just below. But on the other hand "Dream Catch Me" was one of those songs you thought you'd always known. So perfect that it must've been done before. He should've left "Teardrop" alone, but hey, he's written a song that'll be on every American Teen based sit-drama for years to come. Good luck to him and his barber!

MY opinion again, the BRIT award for "British Female Solo Artist" is WIDE open. On one hand we have stalwart PJ Harvey and on the other we have newcomers like Leona Lewis and Kate Nash.
There was a time when PJ Harvey would win anything just by turning up. Her music is always so different and inovative that judges lap it up. If not a BRIT, she'll probably scoop herself a Mercury next year.
Leona Lewis has got some BIG backing. Her "Bleeding Love" single divided an entire nation. One half went out and bought the track, the other half wanted to cut her open to see if she truly could bleed love.
I'm on the fence to be honest. She has a tremendous voice, there's no denying it, but I can't help sending some of my dislike for Simon Cowell her way. Good luck to her, but not my cuppa!
I think Kate Nash is well in with a chance for this award. Her first single "Foundations" (in my opinion) was one of the greatest, most honest pop songs to come out of the south of England since Johnny Rotten hung up his pink cling ons. Her entire album "Made of Bricks" is full of honesty rivalled only by Arctic Monkeys.
Of course we can't forget Scot country rocker KT Tunstall. Again, not my thing, but I can't help admiring her songwriting. Solid and unfalteringly catchy. Pop for the cortex if you like. She's done great things in a fairly short career, I think KT could suprise everyone and bag this BRIT.
Now, Bat for Lashes. Who??
Exactly.
Well, here ya go, have a watch of a performance down the pub:

Always back the ringer, that's what I say. I haven't heard any of her more of her music yet, but it must be pretty special to be in the running alongside the above. The Wizard (in the above video) reminds me alot of Kate Bush so if the above is anything to go by, she'll do very well indeed. I'll definitely prick my ears up given the chance.

Good luck to everyone nominated for a Solo BRIT.

Next time, I'll be working through the "British Group" and "British Album" nominees.
However it'll probably be quite a short post as the Arctic Monkeys will win everything!

In my opinion of course.

QuidCompare - Overhauled

We've had a few complaints that Quidcompare, QuidsInUK's Cashback Price Comparison Engine was not running quite as smoothly as it should have been. We knew it was fairly slow, we knew it wasn't quite as accurate as it could have been, but hey, we were the first and only Price Comparison site with cashback in the UK (there was only 1 other in the WORLD, and that was in Canada!).
That's not to say we haven't been listening or haven't been messing around with things speeding it all up and trying to make Price Comparisons alittle more accurate.

QuidCompare is now roughly 9 times faster, has had ALL reported bugs ironed out, is now more accurate with it's price comparisons (only just, but we're working on it) and best of all, QuidCompare has had abit of a make over! Take a look at what we've done. Here's a good example: Play.Com

Cool huh? Well, I think so!

Of course, QuidCompare is no longer the only Cashback Price Comparison Search Engine in the UK, everyone's at it. But lest we forget that QuidCompare is the Egg and not the Chicken, it is the Horse and not the Cart, It was the leader and not the follower.

We haven't finished yet. There are still a few design adjustments to make, a few streamlines we could implement, and a plan to unleash on the unsuspecting memberbase of QuidsInUK (muahahah..!) Obviously, our beloved, wise and unfalteringly intelligent members will be the first to know when we're done, I just thought I'd give you all a little heads up on what's happening......

That'll do!
